Lets Talk Masks!

All my masks can be worn or used as decor. I studied the art of Venetian mask making and the art of paper mâché. Using the Italian Venetian traditional recipe of masquerade mask making and made my own template base that I use with variations. Each piece of wearable artwork looks great on the wall or laying out on a dresser or entry way table. Many of my amazing customers say their masks become wonderful conversation pieces they display in their homes!

But Why Venetian Masks? I'm a huge history buff. I love learning about culture! However, the Venetian periods in the 1500-1700s are especially my favorite. These masks "would allow its wearer to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. It was thus useful for a variety of purposes, some of them illicit or criminal, others just personal, such as romantic encounters." (quote from wikipedia) The mystery of hiding your identity behind a mask and the secret thrill of walking the streets unknown is both exciting and fascinating to me.

I enjoy taking the old and incorporating a new twist. From Steampunk, Shabby Chic, to Retro and all that is in between I can create something truly unique with part of history that becomes a piece of artwork for someone to enjoy wearing and / or use as decor in their home. Each one of my handmade Masks is a labor of love. I enjoy watching each creation come to life into something one-of-a-kind.

Materials used on my Masks are: paint, feathers, felt, vintage buttons, pins, jewelry, ribbons and fabrics. Mask Base: is based on the use of authentic Venetian recipe of paper mâché plaster.

About me: I was born and raised in California and lived in Washington State for a few years during college. I grew up surrounded by extremely artistic individuals who inspired and helped create the mold which is me! Residing in California, the coast really inspires me, as well as, experiencing new places. My amazing husband is from Australia and I draw a lot of creative inspiration from our travels to his homeland. I spend a lot of my time on my creations, writing, and being with husband and our three awesome cats: Ollie Bear, Maggie, and Gidget.
